Sunday Drives

I love nothing more than (well there's a lot of things "I love nothing more than" but this is one of my very favorites) getting in the car with my best friend and going for a drive to explore what's around us.
Today we saw  the beautiful Wellsville mountains from a distance.  I like seeing the snow melting down their crevices, it means Summer just might be here to stay a couple months.
We saw this cute baby horse.
There's just something about being in the car with my husband that is so comforting to me.  Just the two of us,  talking about everything that comes to mind and jamming out to our favorite songs.  I feel like this is where I belong, by his side.  And it's my favorite place to be.

Summer Is (finally) Here!!

The weather has finally been beautiful for the past few days and I love it!!  I took work off yesterday since my doctor was out of town and had an awesome day.  I slept in (yay!!) except for Josh's work alarm going off on his phone in the other room and the dang thing doesn't turn itself off if it goes for so long, nope just gets louder and Josh continues sleeping.  And once Ringo heard it, we were up...at 6:22am...on my day off.  Once he had an empty bowel and bladder and a full tummy, we got back into bed with Josh and it felt so good.  I got up and went running at 10:30 before it got too warm and got myself a nice little sunburn that I didn't know about until later.  Josh and I went to a movie, Super 8... super dumb movie.

I wanted to go to the pool to lay out in the warm sunshine.  I always hate going hoping to be able to find a chair.  It was packed but I did find one.  I put tanning lotion on, put my iPod on shuffle, earbuds in my ears and enjoyed the hour to myself lying there in the warmth.  I didn't realize how much sun I got until I got home and in the shower.  The burn feels good, though!  The tops of my shoulders, chest and neck really got it from the run in the morning and then at the pool.
We went up to my mom and dad's for a BBQ for my little sister's birthday on Monday.
She wanted steaks and dutch oven potatoes for her birthday dinner.  A storm had just got done blowing by their house when we got there and, I swear, it was 15 degrees colder.  We all had to move inside while my dad and Uncle Garth got the fire going again.  It warmed back up and we were able to eat outside.
Dad making the dutch oven potatoes, with Branson's help.  (Yep, we're red neck and put the dutch oven in a wheel barrow to stir it up.)
We ate about 2 hours later than we wanted to, but it was really good.  I love getting together with my brother and sister, we always have so much fun.  Even though life has taken the 3 of us in our separate directions, we always pick up right where we left off and laugh and laugh.
I love when the tulips come up because it means winter is over and spring is on it's way, even if it takes a long time like it did this year.  But I really love when my peony bush blossoms.  It means summer is here and it really took a long time getting  here this year.  It's amazing that these flowers start out as these tight little buds.

And then they turn into these gorgeous, huge flowers.

I got on facebook tonight and Chelsie had uploaded a picture she took of her peonies today, too!  Same color and everything.
I love my grape vine, too.  It's coming up so thick and pretty.

Father's Day

We wanted to have a big fun BBQ for my dad for Father's Day, but the weather didn't want to give us a break.  For Mother's Day, the weather was crappy and Mother Nature didn't want to let Father's Day off the hook apparently.  We had the BBQ at Jade and Brit's thinking we could all go out in the back yard and play but instead it rained and rained and was windy.  Jade and my dad manned the grill and the food was really good.
My cute parents.
Later, I went down to Brigham City with my parents to see my Grandpa.  We had a great time visiting with the aunts, uncles and cousins.  On the way home we stopped by to see the progress on the temple.  It's beautiful!
We got up to the summit of Sardine Canyon at just the right time, the rain clouds and sunset were gorgeous!
People were pulling over behind us to get a shot of the beauty, too.

It was a great day to celebrate the fathers in my life.  Father's Day is always a tough day for Josh.  His father wasn't in his life after his very early childhood.  We invited him to our wedding, Rosie actually spoke with him on the phone in front of us to personally invite him.  For whatever reason he didn't make it.  We didn't have any contact with him after that until we saw his obituary in the paper in June 2007 having passed away from pancreatic cancer.  We attended his funeral and found out Josh has 4 younger brothers and sisters.  I think it was tough for him to find out his father had 4 other children and didn't ever want to be in Josh's life.  Josh had his step father to kind of fill the "father" role for him but he and Rosie divorced and we haven't kept in touch with him for multiple reasons on both ends.  So I feel bad for Josh.  I wish I could make him a father so we could make better memories for Father's Day instead of it a reminder of the father he never had.

Happiness

Things that make me happy:
Tulips
Dandelions about to blow in the wind
Making S'mores with friends
Wrinkles' smile
We went up Green Canyon tonight with Tara, Morgan, Lisa, Atty and their dogs.  Tara built us a fire and we roasted s'mores.

Fingernail Moon
We bought those ridiculously huge marshmallows to make the s'mores.  They didn't work so well.
Atty being a good little brother helping Morgan put her s'more together.
Athena was looking for something to drop on the ground for her to eat.
It makes me happy when she smiles!
