Bye Mariah.

We have the cutest girls in our office.  One of them left this Friday.  Mariah is going down to Provo to start massage therapy school.  She is going to be so missed.  We love her.  She's just the cutest 19 year old girl.  She's so naive but adorable.  We always teased her and told her we hated her cause she is so cute.  She's had the IT guy ask her out and one of our medical students.  She was mortified and didn't know what to tell either of them because she didn't want to go out with them but is so nice and didn't want to hurt their feelings.
Right after she put in her 2 week notice, her family found out her dad got a job in Hawaii.  So Mariah is going to Provo and the rest of her family is moving to Hawaii in the summer, how's that for luck!
Since she's moving down to Provo and doesn't have a boyfriend, we've all told her she will at least be engaged in a year with all those cute returned missionaries down there.  She has a bet with Dr. Welter that she won't be so we'll see what happens to her!
Mariah, we are really going to miss you.  The office just won't be the same without you but we all wish you the best of luck in your new journey!
Trudy, Me, Mariah and Tara.
Aren't we just the cutest?!:)

Meeting Pioneer Woman and Sloan Resigns...What?!?!

I saw the Pioneer Woman's book tour on her website a while ago for Black Heels To Tractor Wheels and she was stopping in SLC again!!  She came for her cookbook but I didn't get to go to that so I really wanted to be able to go this time.  My mom saw it too and we decided to make a girl's day out of it and spend the day down there playing.  We thought of all the places we wanted to go.
I was looking at the SLC library's website the night before to see the details and went to the King's English Bookstore's  website who was sponsoring the book signing.  They said you had to have a ticket and they were available starting Feb 1st and they were first come first serve.  We had no idea.  We were both nervous that they would be all gone so we went there first.  The lady at the store said the auditorium was all full but they luckily had seats for the overflow.  So we got our tickets.
We decided to hit Tai Pan to see their cute decorations.  Oh how we love that store!  They had so many cute things and I found all the stuff I want to redo our bathroom in but I need to repaint it first so I didn't get any of it.  I found a purse and my mom got some stuff for her bedroom and bathroom.  While we were there I got a call from Josh.  He asked how we were doing then dropped a bomb on us.  He said Jerry Sloan announced his resignation from the Jazz.  Now, I was raised a huge Jazz fan (my mom would jump and yell at the TV while watching Jazz games) and my husband is a huge Jazz fan so it was quite a blow to hear he was resigning especially in the middle of the season...more on that later.  After we were done there we headed back down town.
We went to the Fanzz store at ESA to see their Jazz stuff, which we had planned to do before we heard about Sloan.  I got Josh a new Jazz shirt for Valentine's Day and my mom got her a cute pink Jazz hoodie.  We talked to a couple of the guys who work there about the news.  Then we headed to Trolley Square and walked around  for a while and were deciding where we should go eat before we went to the library.  It was about 3 pm and Sloan was doing his news conference at that time so we went out to the car to listen to it.  It was pretty hard to hear him say he was resigning as he was choking up.  He truly loves his team and everyone he worked with there.
We were debating between Red Lobster and Applebee's for dinner, Red Lobster won!  I got my favorite Coconut Shrimp, yummy!!
Me & Momma
We headed on our way to the library, way cool building by the way, and got our seats in the overflow.  We were so excited!  The lady from the bookstore earlier was the one introducing P-Dub.  She was so charming and talked for a couple of minutes about this book she wrote about finding her husband and through their first year of marriage and how her shirt had some serious static cling, then she opened it up for a Q & A for a while.  She was hilarious!!
When she was done with the questions they began the book signing.  On our tickets were letters A-Z.  We were R, so we had a loooong wait ahead of us.  We walked around the library for a while and played on the cool elevators, just me and my momma.  We had so much fun together.  Ree brought her two beautiful girls, Mother In Law and her Sister In Law, Missy there with her and we saw them sitting out in the library talking to people.  We went back into the auditorium to wait our turn.
We waited for over 2 hours but it was so worth it.  They weren't calling the next letters up very quickly so we were getting antsy waiting for our turn.  When they got to N and it was almost 9 (and this started at 6) we decided to make our way down closer and thought about cutting in line.  While we were waiting in line, I recognized a friend that I made during the I Heart Faces walk from last year, Marvett!!  Her pictures just keep getting better and better!  After P we got in line, then they called Q and there were only 2 people in that group so we let them go ahead of us.  Then we finally got to meet her...and I completely froze.  I was so nervous, I had hives down my bright red neck!  I had all these things I wanted to tell her and some questions I wanted to ask her.  I wanted to tell her how much she has taught me about photography, how I love her posts about her Bassett Hound Charlie and her punks.  I wanted to tell her I've entered her contests so many times to win something cool, like a new camera or a Kitchen Aid and still hadn't won so if she could do something about that it would be great!:)  I wanted to ask her children's names and ask her how her Kitty is doing and on and on.  But nothing.  My mom told her that we were down there for my birthday to see her and she asked how far away we lived and that was about it.  I felt like Ralphie from a Christmas Story wanting to go back to Santa and tell him he wants the Red Ryder  BB gun.  I wanted to go back to Ree and tell her how much we love her and wait for her posts everyday.  Oh well, it was well worth the wait just to get to meet her and get our picture with her.  It was such a fun experience to have with my mom!

Jerry Sloan, he's been the coach for as long as I can remember, to me he IS the Utah Jazz.  It makes me sad to not see him sitting on the sidelines with the Jazz anymore and to think if the rumors are true and he left because of Deron Williams.

The AP report:
After 23 seasons, Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan had only one bit of advice for successor Ty Corbin.
"Be yourself," Sloan said Thursday after announcing he was stepping down after 1,127 wins the Jazz because he didn't have the energy any more.
Corbin, a former Jazz player, already began meeting with players and will coach his first game Friday night against the Phoenix Suns.
Around the league, the shock remained.
"I'm too shocked to have a reaction," Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "It caught us all off guard. ... He's been there like this rock and all of a sudden the rock is gone. It's like your franchise moved or something. I don't know. It's just strange."
Miami Heat star LeBron James had a similar reaction.
"Man it's gonna be crazy and weird seeing anyone besides Jerry Sloan walking the sidelines for the Utah Jazz!" James tweeted. "Jerry Sloan is the Utah Jazz. Wow."
Sloan was the longest tenured coach in any of the four major sports. His resignation came just two weeks after the second-longest tenured professional coach, Jeff Fisher, parted ways with the Tennessee Titans after a 6-10 season.
"I had a feeling this time was the time to move on," an emotional Sloan said during a Thursday afternoon news conference. "(That's) a long time to be in one organization. Again, I've been blessed. Today is a new day. When I get this over with, I'll feel better. My time is up and it's time to move on."
Longtime assistant Phil Johnson also resigned, surprising even Sloan during their postgame chat Wednesday night with general manager Kevin O'Connor.
"I came with him and I'll leave with him," the 69-year-old Johnson said Thursday.
The two men agreed to sleep on their decisions Wednesday night at the request of team owners and O'Connor, who said he "begged" Sloan not to resign.
Nothing changed in the morning and Sloan reported sleeping better than he has in six weeks. Asked what he'll do now, he didn't know, and said he expected to be a "dizzy duck" for a while.
Jazz CEO Greg Miller also said he tried to talk Sloan out of retiring.
"I want to make it clear that nobody pushed Jerry or Phil out," Miller said. "I loved and respected Jerry for as long as I can remember... I will miss him but benefit from the things he taught me for the rest of my life."
Team officials made it clear that Corbin is not an interim coach.
O'Connor also called false reports that star guard Deron Williams told the team to choose between him or Sloan.
"That's not fair to Deron," O'Connor said. "That puts him in such a bad light. Whoever started that rumor is either uninformed or a liar. I would say the latter."
Williams told 1320-KFAN radio that he and Sloan clashed at halftime Wednesday but insisted there is no truth to the rumors that he forced the Hall of Fame coach out.
"We had a disagreement," Williams told the station. "I've seen him have worse ones with other players. Jerry's very fiery. I am, too. Sometimes we clash on things."
"I would never force coach Sloan out of Utah. He's meant more to this town, more to this organization than I have by far. I would have asked out of Utah first."
Willams said he and Sloan are both "stubborn" and clashed because they both wanted to win.
"Not many come into this league and can play for a Hall of Fame coach their first six years," Williams told the station. "I got a chance to learn from the best. We won a lot of basketball games because of coach Sloan."
Now it's up to 48-year-old Corbin to win some more, starting Friday at home against the Phoenix Suns.
Jazz broadcaster Thurl Bailey, who was traded to Minnesota from Utah in 1991 in exchange for Corbin, called Thursday a "sad day" for the state because such a legend stepped down. But he also was pleased for Corbin, the team's first black coach.
"That's significant," Bailey said. "It goes to a great guy, who was a great player, who happens to be African-American. But as we all know, this is a great country we live in. It's what he worked for. Some guys want to be president. Some guys want to be head coach of an NBA team."
Corbin was offered the job very quickly Thursday morning, and called it a "bittersweet" moment. Sloan said he had not talked to any players, but Corbin was able to sit down with Williams before the press conference.
"While it's a great opportunity for me, it's a bitter moment for me because I will miss these guys a lot," said Corbin, in his seventh year as a Jazz assistant and a former Jazz small forward.
The moves came on the heels of an emotional 91-86 loss Wednesday night to the Chicago Bulls, Utah's 10th in 14 games.
But Sloan, the longest-tenured coach in the four major professional sports, insisted that wasn't the final straw.
But he hinted after the game that something was in the works after delaying his postgame news conference more than 30 minutes.
"I'll be 69 years old next month," Sloan said. "I'm not as lively as I used to be. There's no question losses are very difficult to handle the older you get. When I was younger, I thought I could handle anything, but they were a little more difficult when you get older
Sloan just recently signed a one-year contract extension to carry him through the 2011-12 season, but he also indicated that he would not make anything official until after the current season.
The Jazz started 15-5 but fell to 31-23 after the loss to Chicago, the only other team Sloan has coached (he was 94-121 in nearly three seasons with the Bulls). The Chicago loss was the third straight at home, where the Jazz are only 17-11 this season.
Though Sloan has been with the Jazz since 1983, first as a scout, he knows how tenuous professional sports can be.
Even before Wednesday's game he made that clear.
He has made a habit of conducting his pre-game news conferences next to a large plastic garbage can in the concourse at EnergySolutions Arena rather than from behind a podium.
"You never know when you might be in it," he quipped Wednesday. "It's why I stand here. You take what you get."
Sloan began working for the Jazz as a scout in 1983, became assistant to coach Frank Layden on Nov. 19, 1984, and was named the sixth coach in franchise history on Dec. 9, 1988, when Layden resigned.
He is the only coach in NBA history to win 1,000 games with one team, reaching the milestone Nov. 7, 2008, against Oklahoma City. Sloan's other wins came with the Chicago Bulls from 1979 to 1982.
"Few people have epitomized all the positives of team sports more than Jerry Sloan," NBA Commissioner David Stern said in a statement. "A basketball lifer, Jerry was as relentless in his will to win on the sidelines for the Utah Jazz as he was as an All-Star guard for the Chicago Bulls. In over two decades as a coach, he taught his players that nothing was more important than the team. His most impressive qualities were his leadership and his extraordinary ability to encourage his players to subjugate their individual games for the benefit of the whole."
While he has headed the Jazz, there have been 245 coaching changes around the league - 13 alone by the Los Angeles Clippers, and five current NBA teams (Charlotte, Memphis, Toronto, Orlando and Minnesota) did not even exist when Sloan took the helm in Utah.
Jazz president Randy Rigby said he was grateful for Sloan's legacy.
Team owner Gail Miller called it "the end to an amazing era."
Sloan's 1,221 wins are third in the NBA behind Don Nelson (1,335) and Lenny Wilkens (1,332).
Sloan also is one of only three coaches in NBA history with 15-plus consecutive seasons with a winning record. Pat Riley and Phil Jackson, both with 19, are the others.
As a player with the Bulls, Sloan averaged 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 755 games played over 11 NBA seasons. Nicknamed "The Original Bull" because he was selected in the 1966 Expansion Draft, Sloan was a two-time NBA All-Star (1967, 1969) known for his toughness and grit. He was the only player in NBA history to average 7-plus rebounds and 2-plus steals for his career.
Sloan recorded two triple-doubles in his career. A knee injury prematurely ended his career in 1976.

They named Ty Corbin as the new head coach of the Jazz.  I really hope he does well.  He's been there for the past 7 years and I think will do a great job.
We spent the rest of the day while we were driving around listening to all the interviews and discussions about what happened to make Jerry decide in the middle of the season to resign.  It's just so sad.  He truly will be missed!
All in all it was a great day to spend with my mom and meet Ree!!

Injured

So Josh had been 35 for all of about 24 hours when as he says "his body failed him".  He was going to play racquetball with Cody and Dr. Garg Saturday morning at 9:30.  Well, with his work schedule on the nights he doesn't work he won't go to bed til 3 or 4 AM.  So I woke up at 9:30 and was panicked that I slept that long and Josh needed to be at the gym like, now.  So he hurried and got ready to go, forgetting his good gym socks...and his ankle braces.  I got up and got in the shower and started cleaning the house, when I got a call from Cody.  He said Josh hurt his foot, thought it was broken and was headed to the ER with Garg.  Cody came  and got me so I could get the Jeep from the gym and head to the hospital.  His ankle was a little swollen when I got there and they were just getting ready to take him to get xrays.  He said he went for the ball and rolled his ankle then his upper body weight came down on it and he heard a pop.  He told me it hurt really bad and felt stupid at the gym because he was rolling around on the floor, cussing and saying that it was broken. He said that he's a guy, he's sprained his ankle so many times.  But it's never hurt like this.  The ER doc came in and did his assessment then went to look at the films.
While he was doing that, Jimmy the ER nurse came in to talk to him again.  We asked him if it was a sprain what the popping noise was.  He said it was probably the ligament rolling over his ankle bone...um ouch.  The doc came back in and said he didn't see anything broken, it was sprain.  He then told us the popping noise was probably the ligament rolling over the ankle bone which can be very painful and make a loud pop noise.  They asked him if he wanted anything for the pain, he said no.  He's terrified of pain meds.  Crutches?  No.  So they said to do the RICE (RestIceCompressionElevate) method and to take ibuprofen for the swelling and pain.  So I went and got the car to bring up front.  By the time Josh hobbled into it he was in tears again and writhing in pain.  I felt so bad for him, there was nothing I could do.
We got him home, elevated it, wrapped it up and put some ice on it.  The wrap lasted about 10 minutes before it was killing him.  He camped out on the couch for the rest of the weekend playing Black Ops while I was nurse, babying him and getting him anything he needed.
On Sunday, it was a lot more swollen and really sore.  He couldn't take more than a couple steps on it.  He was on a steady schedule of ibuprofen every 6 hours.  I couldn't believe there wasn't any bruising.

Joshs' little brother, Austin and his girlfriend Alicia decided to come up and see us with their new baby boy, Raedyn.  We felt really bad while they were here because we are so boring.  We just sat here and watched TV and talked.  Raedyn is so cute and loved loved loved Josh and Josh loved him.
(I can't wait to see Josh look at our child like this)
I'm not going to lie, we've had a hard time being happy when other people have babies.  It goes a lot deeper than that but my family reads this blog so I don't want to hurt any feelings.  We've never not loved Raedyn, don't get me wrong, it's just been hard.  I don't understand things sometimes but that's another post for another day.
We were so happy they took the time to come up and see us.  Austin is such a good little brother.  The only thing that kid wants to do is serve and make others happy.  He was so attentive and in love with his baby boy.  I didn't get a picture of the three of them together, next time.
So today at work, everyone was asking about Josh's ankle.  Since Tara and I work at the hospital and the nurse in the ER does clinicals with Welter on Mon and Tues, that's all we talked about.  Welter was concerned for Josh all weekend, wondering if he needed anything for the pain.   I work for the best docs!  Josh said it was doing better today when I talked to him on the phone.  He had school tonight and thought he would be okay without any crutches.  When I got home from work I wrapped it up so he could walk on it at school.
Now the bruising is setting in and it's bruising in totally different places than we thought it would.  It's not quite as swollen but is still sore.  He thinks he'll be back playing racquetball this weekend, yeah we'll see.  He was able to get around okay at school tonight so that's an improvement.
Josh said now that he's 35, it's all down hill from here...He over-reacts just a little.

Josh's 35th!

Josh turned 35 today.  He thinks his life is over...he says it all down hill from here.  I had to work half a day today so Welter and Cody took Josh out to lunch.  They went to a new place here that is like Rodizio Grill, so he ate a chicken heart again...ewww!  We went over to Cody and Tara's for dinner.  We had decided like a week ago that she would make him brisket, he was excited for more meat after lunch!  It was yummy though.  Josh isn't a big cake fan but likes ice cream cake.  Tara has a cake pan that can make one so she did and it was so good!  It was vanilla cake with Rocky Road ice cream in the middle, his favorite.
They got him a new headset to play Black Ops with so he can talk to Cody and Atty through that instead of the Kinect.  And they got him a box of popcorn and movie tickets.

We watched the Jazz lose again, don't know what's going on with them, then they played a good couple of hours of Black Ops.
I hope you had a good birthday, birthday boy!  You are my greatest blessing.  I love everything about you, you were meant for me.  Happy Happy Birthday.

Health Fair and Bunco

There was a huge health fair going on Friday and Tara and I were asked to go represent our clinic for the day.  It went from 12-6pm at Stevens-Henager.  There were tons of different companies there.  Tara and I did blood pressure checks and handed out lots of cards and water bottles.  There were so many different departments of the hospital there we took up two rooms.  We had the Emergency Dept and the Lab on one side of us and Respiratory Therapy on the other.  We had lots of fun and laughs together when there was a lull in the crowd.  They put our room on the local TV station and luckily we didn't have to do any talking!  After the TV interview was over our marketer ordered pizza for all us.  It started to die down after the first couple of hours.  It was fun getting paid to sit there though, especially with Tara.
I left a little early so I could get up to Riverdale for my first Bunco party.  Vicki, who is one of my best friends from growing up, asked me to be in their group this year.  I was excited to play but nervous at the same time. There are 8 girls in our group and I went to school with 6 of them and hadn't seen most of them since we graduated a very long time ago!  I got there late but we had so much fun.  It was so good seeing those girls again and to catch up on what everyone is up to.  I didn't take any pictures because I didn't want to scare them right off the bat!  I thought I'd spare them seeing the crazy camera lady on the first night!  Maybe next month...

Birthdays

I took my mom out to lunch for her birthday on New Year's Day since her birthday was the 2nd.  We went to one of our favorite places, El Sol.  We had a good time together just the two of us.  I love that lady!
my momma and me
My brother's birthday is the 5th and  his wife had planned a surprise party for him at their house.  Well Jade figured it out so it wasn't a surprise anymore...but it was lots of fun!
us B&W
We just hung out at their house, ate and played games.  Jade got some old school games on Netflix that the boys were having so much fun playing.  Branson got a tunnel with a tent for Christmas and wanted everyone to go lay down in his tent and play with him. We played a couple of games of UNO before we had to leave for Josh to get to work.  I just realized I didn't get any pics of my brother...anyway Happy Birthday Mom and Jade!

Welcoming 2011...A Year Of Hope

We didn't really have any plans for New Year's this year, we're exciting like that!  We went to a party at Pioneer Valley Lodge with Cody and Tara for a bit to hang out with the retired people who live there.  They had a buffet and a country band playing.  It was fun hanging out with them for the night before Josh had to go to work at 10.

After Josh left for work, I watched the New Year's Eve shows that were on.  I really wanted to go down to Eve in Salt Lake but it was a high of something below zero during the day so I wasn't going to go stand out in the cold all night for that but I watched it on TV and was happy to be warm on my couch curled up with my blankie and furbabies!
I got my first kiss of 2011 from Ringo since Josh wasn't home...he's cute so he'll do.

new year's kiss
On to 2011, this year I'm doing my best to stay positive.  We started trying for a baby again in October.  I'm on a higher dose of clomid than I was before.  So far no luck, obviously.  I was having a really rough day and usually when I'm down I don't answer the phone.  I don't want to talk to anyone because I don't want to bring them down with me and I just don't feel like talking.  Well Shannon called me that night and for some reason I answered the phone.  I tried my best to sound chipper and happy but there are three people who can read me; my mom, Josh and Shannon.  She reminded me of what I need, hope.  So that is my theme for this year.  Hope that one day I'll be a mother.
I hope 2011 is the year.  This is going to be our year.
Happy New Year!
